Singer/Songwriter Deborah Avans-Travis
was born in a small town on the outskirts of Chicago, and was adopted
at the age of two by a couple from Alabama. When Deborah was four the
family moved to Alabama and that's where she was raised.
When Deborah was old enough to walk, she would sing songs from TV
commercials. She would sing "I say goodbye, you say hello" by the
Beatles, and has been singing ever since.
Deborah grew up with a strong Christian background attending services
during the week and on weekends. Growing up singing in church, Deborah
gives credit for her ability to sing and natural talent to God. She
sang in church and school functions and was a member of a gospel
quartet at the early age of 15.
In 1998, she wanted to see if the
world thought she had talent and decided to take her singing out in
the public. She went to karaoke places around town and won several
contest. In 2000, Deborah recorded a CD titled "Don't Come Cryin To
Me" and move to Nashville. There were some major labels that were
interested in offering a recording contract. She became a regular
backstage at the Opry and met a lot of friends in the business. She
performed at the Stardust Theater in Nashville. That is where she met
the members of the band she toured with. Deborah sang with several
bands for about six years, getting all the experience she could.
After performing at clubs, bars, casinos, theaters, and touring,
Deborah began to realize that God had a better plan for her. She
decided to move back home to Alabama in the spring of 2007, and devote
her time and energy to do the Lord's work spreading the gospel through
her ministry and songs.
Deborah attends Agape Baptist
Church in Scottsboro, Alabama and is married to David Travis with four
children. and one grandson.
My desire is to help and
encourage others through my ministry and songs. I hope to reach out
to those who may be sad, depressed or just discouraged and let them
know there is a God who loves them. God is real and he is a wonderful
and merciful God.
A lot of talented people can sing
songs, but I want to be able to “deliver” a song with
the Lord in it. I pray that he
will help me do just that so I may be able to help someone
know that he is always there. It
seems like sometimes he’s a million miles away, but
he’s as close as the beating of
our own hearts.
